Transition Newcastle’s Upcycle Newcastle is teaming up with Boomerang Bags to run the first Boomerang Bags workshop in Newcastle.

Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of Boomerang Bags – community made using recycled materials, Boomerang Bags provide a free, fun, sustainable alternative to plastic bags.

The bags are placed at supermarkets so people can borrow them and bring back (to use again or return for someone else to use).

What to Bring: If you have them – Sewing machine and sewing accessories (scissors, pins, cottons etc.). Fabric but only if you have some already – please don’t buy anything new.

Cost: Your time and energy!

We will have a few spare sewing machines, overlockers and accessories to use, as well as plenty of fabric, so please come even if you don’t bring anything with you, and even if you can’t sew! There will be plenty of jobs to do, plenty of materials to use and people to teach you how to make them if you need it.

Come when you want, stay as long as you want.

We’d love to have a rough idea of numbers for this event, so please let us know if you’re planning on coming. Email upcycling@transitionnewcastle.org.au respond via the Facebook event.

Hope you will join us!
