Mosaics Workshop (Angie Parkes)

mosaicsYou will complete a trivet (pot stand) project from old ceramics and/or tiles provided by Angie, or you are welcome to bring your own.

What to bring: Safety goggles, old clothes (or old shirt), old rag or towel (for wiping your hands), small plastic container (like margarine, for glue), paddle pop sticks (about 10 if you have them).

Beginners Textile Workshop (Jane Milburn)

wp_20160924_10_51_45_proExperience the limitless potential for repurposing excess t-shirts and denim jeans from your wardrobe or op shop. Immerse in creative and mindful play, learn basic upcycling and hand-stitch techniques. Generate useful and unique products such as bags, beanies, pouches and eco-jewellery.

What to bring: A sense of adventure and creative spirit. T-shirts and jeans that are no longer being worn (natural-fibres preferred). Good scissors, needle and thread (if you have them).

When: 12:00-3:00 Saturday 12 November (including 30 min lunch break)

Vintage Ceramic Jewellery Workshop (Fee Madigan from Art Mania Studio)

What to bring: Old crockery (if you have any), a couple of old rags. $15 for materials to be paid directly to the facilitator at the workshop.

Guitar Making from Junk Workshop (Garry Petrisic)

guitarJoin local musician and luthier Garry Petrisic, of Blackalls Swing Band fame,  in a workshop demonstrating how to make a playable guitar from a cigar box, biscuit tin, just about anything. You will learn all you need to know to build one of these great upcycled instruments at home. Garry will supply all materials needed and participants will go in the draw to take home one of the three guitars built at the workshop.  Participation is free but limited to 20 people. Book early to avoid disappointment.

What to bring: Nothing other than a sense of fun

Intermediate Textile Workshop (Jane Milburn)

Denim workshop 8Be inspired by ideas, empowered with skills and motivated to get the most out of existing clothing and natural fibre resources. Jane will share upcycling ideas and techniques to reinvigorate tired clothes. Experience mindful and creative repair and upcycling techniques by hand-stitching or machine sewing.

What to bring: Bring along a few items from your own wardrobe or charity shop (preferably natural fibres) and discuss the options to tweak or refashion them for a second chance at life. There will be a few machines to use, or you can bring your own. And don’t forget a simple sewing kit (scissors, thread etc).

When: 10:00- 1:00 Sunday 13 November

Re-Upholstery Workshop (Andrew Bielefeld and Fee Madigan from Art Mania Studio)

re-upholsteryBring a small furniture piece (e.g., dining chair, ottoman, foot stool – no full arm chairs please) to re-upholster. You will be guided through all processes of disassembling and reassembling the piece, with appropriate tools and materials provided as required. Any materials not supplied by you will be available to purchase from the facilitator. The workshop will be in 2 x 3hr classes – the first at the festival, and the second at the Art Mania Studio, 12 Council St, Wallsend on 11:00- 2:00 Sunday 20 November.

What to bring: Chair or stool to re-upholster, scissors, tape measure, staple remover (if you have one), pointy nose pliers, flat screw driver, wire cutters.

When: 10:00-1:00 Sunday 13 November AND 11:00- 2:00 Sunday 20 November
Room: Marquee 2 AND second session at the Art Mania Studio, 12 Council St, Wallsend
